The official currency of Rotterdam (and all of the Netherlands) is the Euro (EUR, €). One Euro consists of 100 cents.
ATMs are widely available, and credit/debit cards are commonly accepted throughout the city. Contactless payment is very common, including on public transportation. However, it’s still useful to carry a small amount of cash for markets or small shops.

The Netherlands uses plug types C and F. Both have two round pins. The standard voltage is 230V with a frequency of 50Hz.

If you are taking prescription medication, it’s recommended to bring enough for your entire stay. Travelers may carry medication for personal use, but medicines should remain in their original packaging. It is advisable to carry a copy of your prescription, especially for controlled medications.

The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area.
Nationals of many countries can enter the Netherlands visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business purposes. Travelers from countries not exempt must apply for a Schengen visa before arrival.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) is the main airport serving Rotterdam.
It is located about 6 km north of the city center and offers flights to several European destinations. Public transportation connections to the city center are efficient via bus and metro. 

Many international travelers also use Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is approximately 25 minutes away by high-speed train from Rotterdam Central Station. 

Rotterdam is well connected by rail, with the main station:

Domestic and international trains connect Rotterdam with cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, London, Antwerp, and The Hague. Eurostar services operate direct routes to Paris, Brussels, and London. 

Rotterdam has an extensive and efficient public transport system operated by RET, including metros, trams, and buses. The metro network has five lines (A–E) connecting the city and surrounding region. 

Travelers can easily pay using contactless debit/credit cards or mobile devices through the OVpay system. OV-chipkaart travel cards and mobile tickets via the RET app are also available.

A RET day pass allows unlimited travel on buses, trams, and metro services within Rotterdam for one day.
